Opening e-Books from underthesun

All eBooks purchased through underthesun are sent to you in two different formats:

  • ePub
  • MOBI

Depending on which device/app you wish to use to access the file, will determine which file you need to download.

NB: Once purchased, both files will be available for you to download in two places:

Opening the file on your chosen device

eBooks purchased from underthesun should be able to be opened/read in all eBook readers. Instructions for accessing the eBook vary as to which device you use to read it. Simply follow these instructions to access/read it on your device of choice:

Using Books app

  • A. Mac computer (using Books app)
  • B. Apple iPhone/iPad (using Books app)

Using Kindle app/device

  • C. Mac computer (using Kindle Classic app) – for older Mac computers only
  • D. Mac computers/iPhones/iPads (using Kindle app)
  • E. Windows computers (using Kindle app)
  • F. Android mobile phones (using Kindle app)
  • G. Kindle device

(NB: As Amazon provides Kindle software for free, they require you to sign into an Amazon account to use it, even to read eBooks not purchased directly from them)

  1. Click on the download link (either on website or in the body of the email you receive) to download the ePub file.
  2. Open the Books app on your Mac computer.
  3. Under the File menu, go to 'Import'
  4. Select the file from where it has been saved to your computer (NB: this depends on your own individual computer's settings. The default location is the 'Downloads' folder but your computer may be set up to download files from the internet to another location, such as the Desktop)
  5. Select the eBook from your Downloads and click 'Import'
  6. The book should now appear in your Books Library under 'All'
  7. If you have a lot of eBooks, an easy way to find it is to sort the eBooks by 'recent' (in the top right hand corner of your screen) – then the new book will appear at the top of the list of books in your library.

  1. On your iPhone/iPad, click on the download link (either on website or in the body of the email you receive) and click 'Download' to save the ePub file to your Files app
  2. Open the Files app on your iPhone/iPad.
  3. Tap on the ePub file in your Library to open the eBook.

  1. Click on the download link (either on website or in the body of the email you receive) to download the MOBI file.
  2. In the Finder, navigate to where the file has been saved to your computer (NB: this depends on your own individual computer's settings. The default location is the 'Downloads' folder but your computer may be set up to download files from the internet to another location, such as the Desktop)
  3. Right-click on the MOBI file (if you don't have a right-click button, then hold down the 'Control' button on your keyboard at the same time as clicking) and select 'Open with' (not 'Open')
  4. Select 'Kindle Classic' as the app to open the file
  5. Double-click on the eBook in your Library to read it. NB: If you see this warning message, you can safely click on 'Open' to read the eBook.

  1. Download or save the eBook (MOBI) file to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Start by opening the Kindle app. If you do not have the Kindle App you can download it from the App Store. The file may not load correctly unless the Kindle app is opened first.
  3. On your iPhone/iPad, navigate to the downloaded file.
  4. Hold down the icon for the .mobi file attachment. A menu should open which says ‘Open In’. Select ‘Kindle’.
  5. The book should now open in the Kindle app.

Alternatively:

  1. Download or save the eBook (MOBI) file to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. On your iPhone/iPad, navigate to the downloaded file. Tap on the file.
  3. If a screen appears and you can see ‘Copy to Kindle’, tap ‘Copy to Kindle’ and the book should appear in your Kindle app.

Alternatively:

  1. Download or save the eBook (MOBI) file to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. On your iPhone/iPad, navigate to the downloaded file. Tap on the file.
  3. If a grey screen appears and you can’t see ‘Copy to Kindle’, click on the ‘share’ icon in the bottom left hand corner and scroll through the menu until you see ‘Copy to Kindle’.
  4. Tap ‘Copy to Kindle’ and the book should appear in your Kindle app.

  1. Check that you have ‘Kindle for PC’ installed on your computer.
  2. Download the eBook (MOBI) file to your computer and browse to the file location.
  3. Double click or Right click the .mobi file and select Open with ‘Kindle’.
  4. If you receive an error when opening the file, check your Kindle app. The file might already be in your Kindle library.

  1. Download or save the eBook (MOBI) file to your Android device.
  2. On your Android device, go to your home screen and open your ‘File Manager’ or ‘File Explorer’. It’s called ‘Files’ on some Android phones.
  3. In your ‘File Manager’, locate the .mobi file you downloaded.
  4. Select, ‘Copy’ your .mobi file, and then ‘Paste’ it to your Kindle folder within your file directory (not directly into the app). If you are not seeing the Kindle folder, it may be that your phone settings are switched off for downloading files to the Kindle app, if you are using phone data and not wifi. You can either connect to wifi or change the setting on your phone.
  5. After pasting your .mobi file to the Kindle folder, close your file manager and then open your Kindle app. You should see the file. If you don’t see it, go to your Kindle app’s menu then press ‘Sync’. If pressing ‘Sync’ does not work, and you still do not see the .mobi file, restart your Android and check the Kindle app again.

  1. Save the eBook (MOBI file) to your computer.
  2. Connect your Kindle to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. After connecting, you will see your Kindle as a folder or drive. You can ‘Drag and Drop’ or ‘Copy and Paste’ the MOBI file into the Documents folder on Kindle drive or Kindle folder
  4. Safely remove the USB cable when the activity indicator on your Kindle stops flashing, by selecting ‘Safely remove mass storage’ (Windows PC) or ‘Eject’ (Mac).
  5. You should now be able to find the eBook (in MOBI format) in the Kindle Library on your Kindle.
